Freqtrade
Open-source crypto trading bot written in Python, with backtesting, parameter optimization, a simulated mode and Telegram control.
The reference open-source crypto bot: complete, well documented and backed by a huge community.
Who it is for
Retail traders who know some Python and want a self-hosted crypto bot, tested in simulated mode first.
Strengths
- Dry-run mode with fake money before risking anything.
- Backtesting on downloaded historical data and parameter optimization (hyperopt).
- Control and monitoring via Telegram or a web UI.
- Spot on Binance, Bitget, Bybit, Gate, HTX, Hyperliquid, Kraken, OKX and others; futures on Binance, Bitget, Bybit, Gate, Hyperliquid, Kraken and OKX.
- Very active project (over 55,000 GitHub stars, daily commits in October 2026).
Good to know
- Its own documentation says it is "for educational purposes only" and warns not to risk money you are afraid to lose.
- Needs an always-on server: at least 2 GB RAM and 2 vCPUs according to the docs.
- Optimizing with hyperopt makes overfitting easy: what wins on past data may not win afterwards.
